After many years of offering young people practical experience in the workplace, the A. Proctor Group have taken a bold leap further down this path by partly replacing their sales team with the next generation of construction professionals: a four strong team of top of their class primary seven graduates.
Spearheading the initiative in partnership with Education Scotland, it is hoped this radical approach will develop Proctors future position in the marketplace whilst boosting participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects in schools across Scotland.
There have of course been challenges, as MD Keira Proctor explains:
“The biggest issue we have faced so far has been problems with reaching pedals in company cars. We confidently expect that developments in self driving vehicles will solve this in the near future.
Beyond that, we have noticed a slight increase in overheads from expense claims for jelly and ice cream and a slightly earlier finish to the day to accomodate bedtime and overtiredness, but overall we consider this blue sky experiment to have been overwhelmingly positive”

For an idea so far outside the box, acceptance both in the marketplace and in the courts has been far better than expected, with initial indications being that first quarter sales targets have been exceeded across all sectors.
The A. Proctor Group are now looking to roll this out across their entire UK sales team, bringing a fresh perspective to bear on the industry and ensuring their business model is fit for whatever challenges the future may hold.
Clair Millar, Head of Technical Sales Development for the Glasgow area was among the first to join the company:
“Following a career to date focussing mainly on jumping in muddy puddles, the opportunity to step up and develop my skills in new areas could not have come soon enough. In today's increasingly tough jobs market, the Proctor Group have given me a fantastic chance to leapfrog my peer group and begin developing my CV”
