In July 2009, the A Proctor Group, in conjunction with Sheffield City Council conducted a pilot project at the Ecoterrace in Sheffield. The installation, in partnership with Kier Sheffield who maintains 53,000 houses and other public buildings such as libraries, schools and social services establishments, served as a practical demonstration of the benefits of Spacetherm® in solid wall applications.
Working closely with technical partners ITW and Fermacell, the Perthshire based A Proctor Group installed 50 square metres of Spacetherm® F40 high performance dry lining laminate onto the existing 1900’s 9inch solid brick walls, improving the calculated u-value from around 2.1W/m²K to 0.27W/m²K, whilst only using a 50mm insulation board, thus allowing the property to achieve a far improved energy performance rating without a dramatic loss of internal space.
The unique high performance aerogel insulation (with a K factor of 0.013W/mK) used in Spacetherm® F panels, combined with the robustness and durability of Fermacell gypsum board delivers continued thermal conductivity and true long term performance for 50 years +.
The energy savings resulting from the dramatically improved thermal performance of the envelope and the advantages to occupier comfort of the warmer internal surfaces will not only improve the day to day lives of the tenants of Robey Street, but will also make a significant contribution to progress meeting the Decent Homes standard and the Governments CERT commitment. Approx figures show a saving of 2000 kg CO²/a.
