Cube Housing Association contacted A. Proctor Group following on from a mailshot publication that went out to Housing Associations.

John Johnston, Thermal Business Manager, visited to discuss with Cube a pilot show house in the 25 story block at Wyndford Road.   This show house is an example of the extensive upgrades that Cube intend to embark on for three multi story blocks in Maryhill.

The Multi Story blocks are of typical concrete construction, with large concrete panels on the outside fixed to concrete cavity walls, which have a lightweight thermal block internal and plaster on the hard finish.

The rooms in the property are a reasonable size with a good flat surface, traditional methods would have had an impact on the footprint of the room and would have been difficult to detail due to the amount of glazing especially in the sitting room area.

Cube Housing Association have installed the Spacetherm Fermacell Laminate with an overall thickness of 28mm which helped maintain a good sized room and caused little or no disruption to the existing fittings and window details. The installation was carried out by mechanically fixing the Spacetherm Fermacell boards to the existing wall surface.

The thermal performance of the existing wall construction was W/M2k.  After the SPACETHERM Laminate  had been installed, the thermal performance was improved to 0.

The SPACETHERM range of high performance materials provides the highest level of thermal insulation possible with a class leading thermal conductivity ranging from 0.012 W/mK to
0.014 W/mK.

This remarkable performance is achieved through the use of flexible aerogel blankets developed by ASPEN AEROGELS INC. The insulation used in the SPACETHERM panels is a unique high performance material derived from silica gel. Until now Aerogel has been primarily used in industrial and petrochemical applications where it’s dependable and easily verifiable performance has been thoroughly proven.
